Zaccheus Jackson at FH

Zaccheus Jackson at FH

Zaccheus Jackson, a six-time VanSlam team member, visited FH and did a slam poet performance. Before he came, I had no idea what slam poetry was or heard of it. After his performance, I learned a lot. The way I could see his emotions as he performed really got to me. When he was talking about his time in jail and some mistakes he made in life, I could see the experience of pain in his eyes and the way he expressed himself with his voice and body language even though the mistakes he made in life helped him move on. Thanks to slam poetry, he got himself back up. He was walking around one day when he stumbled across a slam poet cafe. The moment he ran out of the door after presenting due to his nervousness, he knew he found where he belonged. The slam poetry community didn't care who he was before; what he was doing before. All they cared about was him and the way he expressed himself through poetry. Zack has taught me that you could still come back up even from a bad situation and still stand tall.

Also, congratulations to Zaccheus who made the Vancouver Poetry Slam team for the 6th time on April 5th! Go like his Facebook page

Check out a few of his other performances as well
