What did we do?
We watched The Outsiders Film today in class. It was a very good movie although it was an old film. We have been reading the Outsiders book and Ms.Lees thought it would be a good idea if we watched the original movie. We all enjoyed it and it was a good way to end the novel. I liked the novel better then the movie because the book had more descriptive words. The movie just took the main parts; most films do that anyway.
Why did we do it?
We watched the movie because we all deserved it and we had just finished the novel. Most kids did their homework but others didn't. Ms.Lees was nice enough to let it go and let us watch the movie. We deserved it because we have been working really hard on the novel and our learning blogs have improved so much. We had also just finished the book so we thought it would be a great idea to watch the movie and see what the differences are between the movie and the book.
Connections?
Connections beyond Humanities include making sure your work is done the time it needs to be done. That was one of the reasons we watched the movie. Another could be, the reason S.E Hinton wrote this book is because she wanted other people to know how people liked the greasers lived in the 1960's. The greasers had it rough and i think watching this movie might make a difference to people. Such as no more fights and gangs. Connecting with these characters made me realize their no different then everybody else. They have the same problems and worries.
Homework tips are make sure your learning blogs are detailed and thorough.
Reminders are whole book test.

Learning Blog 17/12/2013
What did we do on class?
Today, in class we checked over our blog groups blog to see who did their work and who didn't do their work. We discussed about watching "The Outsiders" on Wednesday. We marked "The Outsiders" vocabulary on chapter 7 to 9. Our teacher talk about how to write and improve our writing on our group blogs.
Why did we do it?
We did this because we should get more responsible for our work and how much effort we put into it. We discussed about watching "The Outsiders" because it's our reward for finishing our work on time on the due date. We talked about improving our writing because we should write more detailed in our paragraph and in other writing homework.
When will we use this outside of Humanities?
We can use this outside of humanities because it can help us write better in our report for our other classes. We can also use this skill for a job if you have to write a speech or a document to send to your boss.
Homework/Reminders
For homework we have the "The Outsiders" vocabulary and question for chapter 11 to 12, that is due tomorrow. Study for "The Outsiders" quiz on chapter 9 to 12 tomorrow.
Tips
Go over chapter 9 to 12 for "The Outsiders" quiz.

What did we do in class today?
Today in class the caught up in work students wrapped presentes for "Adopt a Family", a program our class did to help the less fortunate for Christmas. The other students who weren't wrapping caught up on work, like The Outsiders questions and vocabulary as well as HACE assignments.
Why did we do it?
We are doing Adopt a Family to help the less fortunate and add a little Christmas cheer into their lives. We caught up on our work because we have to finish our homework in time to become more responsible.
When we will use this outside of Hum?
We can use the things we did today outside of Hum when we wrap presents for other times and not just for Adopt a Family. Since today was a "catching up on work" day, we can use today as a reminder that we should finish our work on time as well as using time wisely.
Homework/Reminders
For homework, we must finish all our Outsiders questions and vocabulary for Wednesday. Also, there is a chapter 9-12 quiz on Wednesday!
Tips
Go over your vocabulary and your questions to make sure they're correct.

What did we do?
Friday in class we talked a lot about the adopt a family and how we have to budget the money carefully because lots of people forgot the money. Then we discussed who would go shopping to get what over the weekend and some people were sorting out what things we could get. We also talked a little about the learning blogs and remembering to do them.
Why did we do it?
We are doing the adopt a family thing to help people. We are helping them because everyone deserves to have a nice Christmas but some people can't afford to buy gifts for their kids so that is what we help them with.
Connections outside humanities,
You can use these skills when your older and you need to go shopping and need to budget your money so you know how much you have to spend and saving and stuff.
Homework?
Chapters up to 10 need to be finished for Monday.

Reflections and Nelson Mandela connections
Reflections:
Today was a very interesting class. We first talked about what would motivate us to do our homework at home. We then watched a video on motivation and hard work. The video showed that know matter how much you pay someone the out come will come out the same if you were to pay them a lot or not enough. The video also showed that the reason people do things is because they want to. Most people don't want to work; so they don't work as hard as they should be working. A part in the video really jumped out at me. The part that jumped out at me was when the guy decided to do a challenge. The challenge involved having people come and do challenges and innovate together for FREE. These people where not getting paid but they were doing an outstanding job. The reason they were doing so well was because they loved to do it. They showed interest and that's what made them work hard. So most people think that if you pay some one more they will work harder but that is not the case.
Nelson Mandela Connections:
Nelson Mandela and I are very different in most ways but similar in other ways. Our similarities are that Nelson believed in rights and equalization. Although he is much older then me it doesn't mean we can't have similarities. Nelson was a leader. Sometimes I do believe I can be a leader but most times I will just stay quiet. On the pitch (soccer field) I am a leader. I talk to my team and give them direction and that is exactly what Nelson did. Although Nelson and I have similarities we also have differences like everyone else in this world. Not only is Nelson older then me but he has known life longer then me. He knows what's coming and I don't. Even though he past away doesn't mean his journey has ended it has just begun. I am young and my journey has just begun but he is old and his journey has just begun. We are different. He left this world with a message. He wanted another leader to step in his footprint. To do exactly what he did. To Change racism, peoples rights and peoples lives. For most people Nelson was a life changer. He was the kind of man that would sacrifice him self in jail for 27 years just for his people. For his people to finally have things right to have things the way they should be. But me I haven't done any of that. I haven't changed peoples lives I haven't made the world a better place. I'm just an ordinary person just like everyone else.

Reflection and Making Connections
Reflection on Motivation:
In class on Wednesday we watched a video on Motivation and that when we think about motivation, we think about getting a reward. For example, money. The harder the task is the more money you get, and the easier the task is the less you get. Money is really important to most people because without money it's hard to survive. This is why money keeps us "motivated". But you're wrong. In the video it showed us that the more money you get paid the worst you do and the less money you get paid has better working results. Motivation doesn't always come from rewards such as money. People are more motivated when they do things they're interested in and things they enjoy doing. After watching the video, we had a class discussion on the best ways of being motivated. We decided that doing things we like and enjoy makes us more motivated then just doing things you don't like but getting paid.

Nelson Mandela would be a good example of Motivation. He believes that any race is equal and no race should be better than each other. Even tho he was kept in jail for 27 years . He didn't give up. He kept fighting and protesting and eventually he became the president and accomplished what he wanted to always do.
Learning Blog
Today in class we first collected money for Adopt a Family. (Reminder to being ten dollars if you haven't brought it yet). We then started brainstorming on what could motivate us on bringing the 10$ and not forgetting. We thought of watching The Outsiders movie if we get out 10$'s in my Friday. Ms. Lees told us we should find a buddy to remind each other to bring the 10$. We also took a look at our learning blog posts and learned what we should improve on; for example to be more specific on things. We then watched a innovation week video at Fraser Heights Mrs. Morsette shared on Twitter. As a class we talked about good and bad things about innovation week and why there was less negative things in the video. We also watched a video on Motivation and a video called kid president's pep talk to kids and teachers.

Connection and Nelson Mandela motivation
The motivation video that we watched showed us that usually to get motivated you would most likely be receiving a reward or a "prize". And that would make you way more motivated than somebody just telling you to do something for nothing in return. You probably wouldn't do that same quality of job.
And Nelson Mandela is a amazing person to look up to because he wanted to help people for nothing in return just the gratification of helping people. That is one reason why we are looking up to him and celebrating his death.
Motivation
The first thing that surely must come into our minds when we think of what makes us motivated are rewards or punishment. For example, some people get rewards for good grades or they get punished if they don't get good grades. In class, we watched a video about how people who did challenging tasks got more money while others who did worse got a less amount of money. Surprisingly, the people who were offered less money as an award did better than the people. I think what truly motivates people is when they set themselves a goal to reach or when they fight for something that they truly believe in.
Nelson Mandel is a good example of somebody that shows movtivation. He kept pursuing in what he believed in, even if it meant spending 27 years in jail. It took him a lot of movtivation to keep going and trying to end the apartheid. I wonder what truly sparked the motivation inside of him to keep going and not give up.

Reflection & Making Connection
Reflection About Motivation
Today in class we watched a video on motivation and talked about motivation because it's not about how much you get of a reward or what you get that gets you motivated. What I mean is that if you get more money, you will be more motivated, but you're wrong because when you get the money you won't even focus or care about being motivated any more and only think about the money you got. It also means that being motivated doesn't really work because it makes thing worse. When we finished watching the video, our class discuss and thought that the best way of being motivated is by doing what you love or like, than rather being forced to do what you don't like.
Making Connection & Nelson Mandela
When I'm making a connection between me and Nelson Mandela, all I think of is that we really don't have a lot in common, but we do have some in common that I can make a connection of. For example the first thing is that Nelson believes that any race is equal and none of the race is better than each other, just like me. Second thing is that he protest to the things that he believed that wasn't fair and wasn't right. The last thing is that Nelson Mandela change the world and also change the course of the modern history. What we can learn from Mandela's life is how he stands up to the things that he believed in, so he can change it and try to make a better place. The world is celebrating his life because it was an opportunity to reflect on the man who led the fight and won against apartheid.
Good Collaboration
Good collaboration is when a group of people can work together very well. When you have good collaboration everyone does a fair share of work, and everyone builds on each others ideas. It is good that people build on each others ideas because eventually you can come up with the best idea possible. In class today we watched a video on good collaboration. The video was a bunch of people trying to create a new and better shopping cart. The people in the video build of each others ideas very well which helped them make a much better final product. The people worked together. Working together is good because you can get more work done faster and better. The people in the video were a good example of collaboration because they all worked good together and they listened to everyones ideas.
Reflection and Nelson Mandela Connections
Reflection:
Today in class we did a discussion on motivation and we
watched a video on motivation. Before we watched the video, we talked about how
to get motivated. The class thought that we would get motivated by getting a reward
like money. In the video the man explained that getting a reward for motivation
actually doesn't work. It actually makes it worse. After the video, the class
decided that getting a reward doesn't help but really makes it worse. In the
video were going to build something and the best gets a big reward, the second
best a medium reward, and the third best gets a small reward. It turns out that
everyone didn't do very good. Our class decided that the best way to get
motivated was by doing something that we like, like in innovation week.
Nelson Mandela Connections:
Me and Nelson Mandela Don't have a lot in common. We do have
some connections though. Nelson Mandela believes that everyone should have
equal rights all around the world and so do I. For example, I don't think that
any race is better than another such as whites being better than blacks or Asians
being better that whites and so on. Nelson Mandela also isn't afraid to stand
up for what he believes in or if he doesn't like how something is like the
whites being better than blacks. I am also not afraid to protest against
something that I don't like. I think that Nelson Mandela is a great role model
and is a one of a kind person. He went to jail not because he stole something
or killed someone, he went to jail for protesting against something that he
believed wasn't fair and wasn't right. He is a great person and he always will
be. R.I.P Nelson Mandela.

Learning Blogs
Today in class we learned about how to make our blog posts better, and we watched a video on good collaboration. In the video a group of people were trying to desine a more efficient and better way to make a shopping cart. The group all build of each others idea which helped them get the best idea possible. In the end the shopping cart that they made was much better than a regular one because it was more safe, cheaper and more efficient. It was more efficient because the wheels could turn 360 degrees which made everything more easy. It also had a price check thing on it which saved time.
We learned how to make our blog posts better because being able to write paragraphs well will help you get good grades and will also help the reader understand what you are writing better. We learned about good collaboration because if you have good collaboration you will be able to work faster, get better ideas which will make your final product the best that it can be. The video was a good example of good collaboration because everyone in that video worked well together.
Some connections beyond humanities are when you are in other classes being able to write good will help you get better grades. A connection for good collaboration is when you are in a job and you need to work together, having good collaboration would be good because it will help you get your work done faster and better.
For homework today we have to look 10 things why we are celebrating Nelson Mandellas death. Try to find some links and articles about him. Everyone bring 10$ for adopt a family.

Nelson Mandela
NelsonMandela was born on July 18, 1918 and died on December 5, 2013 at the age of 95. We are celebrating Mandela's life because of his selfishless behaviors. and for fighting against racial discrimmination. Due to fighting against the apartheid, he was arrested and put in jail. He was released 27 years later. Unlike money, time cannot be refilled. However, losing 27 years of his precious time where most people would've given up, Mandela continue to pursue the end of the apartheid. He eventually became the president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela shows how with strong motivation, anything can happen. He also showed the whole world how we shouldn't judge people by their race and how we should approach situations with an open mind. Mandela truly was a great icon of leadership and how we should never give up and fight for what be believe in.
Apartheid: The apartheid was a system in South Africa that seperated people based off their race. For example, there were laws that made sure white and black people must live and work away from each other.

"To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity."
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
-Nelson Mandela
Good Collabration
Good collabration is a skill that everyone should learn. If we didn't have good collabration skills, we wouldn't be able to work well with people in the future which can affect our job. To improve our collabration skills and bring our ideas together, we can carefully listen to each others ideas and elaborate on them. Remember to not shut down each other's ideas. For example, the things we have today couldn't have been created without a group of people collabrating together. Learning skills such as collabrating together as a group is very useful.
Collaboration skills
Good successful collaborations include having team work. If everybody would agree or give helpful advice or correction, if there was no team work it wouldn't work very we'll. Also nobody should be "in charge" because then it gets the other people thinking that their ideas aren't as important as the person that is in charge. But you do need leaders or it would not work.
The company worked on ideas together and didn't put down ideas. Then to make the whole thing happened they put all ideas together to create one idea that incorporated all ideas.

Good Collaboration
Good collaboration includes working with others and being able to communicate with peers. Good collaboration is important when you're working in a group because you need good collaboration to work well with others. You also need to listen to others opinions instead or judging them on it. Even if you're partner isn't really good at something, you should still encourage them to try or give them something they're capable of. In the video today we saw in class; everyone there was working together giving each other ideas and not afraid to speak up.

What did we do today?
Why did we do it?
Today we didn't start with silent reading, instead we talked about our adopt a family. Our adopt a family is a family that we adopt and help them for Christmas because they cant afford it. This is a very special thing to be apart of.
We then watched a video that we have previously watched in September. The video was a documentary about the shopping cart. This group of people(IDEO) that were creating a shopping cart that was relevant for everything. Such as checkout on the buggy and safer child seating areas.
Why did we do it?
We are doing the adopt a family because us as a class want to help a family that is less fortunate then us and might not have a very good Christmas. This is a very good thing to do as a class because it shows to other people that we are very kind and giving. We watched the video because Ms.Lees wanted us to understand the collaboration part of the video so we could use it towards the class and our blog groups.
Connections?
Connections outside of Humanities includes helping people for charity anytime and any place. For the shopping cart it is a good innovation for young minds and a way to get you motivated when your older. Lets say you want to be a entrepreneur or an inventor this video can help your collaboration skills with the group of people you do this with.
Homework/Reminders
Make sure that when you do the paragraph on good collaboration that you are thorough. Quiz on chapters 7-8 for the outsiders.
Bring your 10$ for the adopt a family.

Collaboration
Good collaboration is key to any success. Being able to work with others and listen to others is a part of good collaboration as well. When we have group conversations in class the whole class should be involved. Everybody should be able to talk atleast once without being judged. The number one rule to good collaboration is letting everyone in the whole group have a say. In the video we watched i noticed and heard that there was no boss man; everyone was treated equally and fairly. I also noticed that their finished project had a taste of everyones idea. To have good collaboration in the blog groups is very important because everyone in your group has a different spoken mind and might have a different perspective. You just need to collaborate with each other and work it out. Processes that they were using in the video was splitting in to groups and asking professionals and people on the streets and constantly finding new ideas and listening to every single one of them.
Good Collabroation Skills
What makes a good collaboration skills is when you're working well with others and fair share of work because your peers can have a lot of different idea than what you have. When you think that some of your peers are not bright, you should still give them some work to prove that they are bright by giving them a second chance and encouraging them that they can do it. The inquiry process takes a lot of time because you have to take time to research, observe and planned it out. When you have the process you can set the criteria, divide the group so they can do their part and than build it when their done. How to generate creative ideas is by getting information from your research, so you can share your ideas without judgement from your peers.

Learning Blogs Feedback
Thank you for your blog entries. I have added comments on some of them and I would like you to read them. I have noticed that there are some dates missing and one member only posted once. Although this is a group blog, everyone needs to take responsibility for his or her share of the work.
